The project aimed at restoring non-working hand pump borewells to provide drinking water to underprivileged communities in 8 villages of Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh, India. With the generous support from Stichting Castricum Helpt Muttathara, our team successfully restored borewells in 8 villages. This intervention has significantly improved access to clean and safe water for 965 households, benefiting approximately 5975 people.
Our methodology included the removal of old and damaged borewell materials, purchasing new materials, constructing new platforms and water run-off channels, and installing new borewell equipment. The project was supervised by a dedicated project manager, with the actual restoration carried out by experienced borewell technicians, supported by local volunteers.
The community expressed immense gratitude for the project's impact, which alleviated water scarcity, improved health and hygiene, and empowered individuals by saving valuable time previously spent fetching water. Additionally, a Water User Committee was established in each village to ensure the sustainability of the restored borewells. Health workers conducted hygiene education programs, further enhancing the project's long-term benefits.
