This project targeted 60 impoverished Indigenous Tribal women, aged 25 to 40 years, in Mydukur Tribal Colony, Y.S.R. Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
From November 28, 2021, to August 15, 2022, the women received comprehensive skill development training in making various bamboo products such as baskets, grates, pans, and dust bins. The training emphasized modern designs, smooth weaving techniques, and innovative patterns. Following the training, each woman was provided with the necessary bamboo sticks and knives to kickstart their bamboo basket-making business.
RDS also formed six Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to foster community support and leadership among the women. With their new skills and initial capital, these women now produce and sell bamboo products, earning up to INR 20,000 per month. This income has significantly improved their socio-economic conditions, enabling them to support their families, send their children to school, and become self-sufficient.
The project has not only alleviated poverty and unemployment but also empowered these women to lead better lives. RDS expresses heartfelt gratitude to Stichting Castricum Helpt Muttathara for their invaluable support in making this transformative project a reality.
